Using one of the listed psychological theories to discuss the reasons for the behavior of a criminal. The paper should describe the case in detail, provide relevant background information on the individual (such as developmental/family history, schooling, employment, early signs of delinquency, etc.), present the appropriate psychological theory that best explains the motivations and behavior of the offender, and convincingly apply the theory to the case.

It is recommended that you use a minimum of 6 sources for your paper. You may use general online sources to obtain information about the individual’s crimes, but you may not use such sources to describe and explain theories or as supporting evidence for your arguments about why a particular theory is applicable. For all materials that you use, you must properly cite your sources in the body of the paper (e.g., Smith & Brown, 2009) and include a reference list using American Psychological Association (APA) formatting.

When writing your paper, consider the point values of the grading components carefully. In other words, 45% of your grade will be allocated to how well you describe your chosen theory and apply it to the case. That is the primary purpose of the assignment, so be sure to make it the main focus of your paper. Previous students have erred by writing 9 excellent pages on the case description and offender’s background, and devoting only a couple of paragraphs to the theory.
