Assignment: MHC 678 Self Analysis Paper
Assignment: MHC 678 Self Analysis Paper
This is a self analysis paper using the results of the assessments: Myers Briggs Type Indicator & Strong Interest Inventory Assessments, which I took. Icompleted 1pg and the writer wouldjust have to complete the other 4 pgs and use sources, which I will provide the text and information to use the University’s data base.
Paper Guidelines:
• Include outside sources i.e.) Carl Jung (including text) to support your answers when you cover the following questions:
a. What feelings did you experience before, during, and after the test?
b. Did any results of these tests surprise you?
c. How would you say that the act of taking these tests and becoming aware of the results prepare you in your career?
d. What is your opinion of the ‘dual process’ in counseling?
e. Would you use these tests with your clients? If so, how would you do so? Section d. is not necessarily clear initially for some people…
The parameters for ‘dualprocess’ are defined for our purposes as the process by which we, as counselors, learn from our own personal development, and the experience of being with people, specifically; co-workers, supervisors, and clients. We learn(ed/will learn about the interface of family i.e.) members, generational messaging re: work ethic, decisions regarding procreation, etc. Knowing our results from the MBTI and Sii how will the aforementioned facets play in our professional life as a mental health counselor.
In other words after having taken these two assessments (undoubtedly learning about self, and thereby increasing self-knowledge); how do you imagine knowing this ultra-valuable personal information would inform aspects of your life as a mental health professional?
More specifically, how will knowing your results from the:
Myers Briggs Type Indicator dichotomies Extraversion – Introversion (way to energize) Sensing – Intuition (way to intake information) Thinking – Feeling (way to make decisions) Judging – Perceiving (way to approach life)
Strong Interest Inventory (traits & environments) Realistic
Enterprising Investigative Social
Artistic Conventional
Affect. .. your interactions and perceptions of clients, clients’ problems and conflicts, your relationships with supervisors, colleagues, co-workers, contacts within your professional network? All of whom have similar or distinct types and preferences.
What areas of improvement and/or methods of self-preservat ion might your results beckon your attention for self-amelioration and/or sensitivity?
More concretely, what type of vocational venue might you predict being most comfortable? i.e.) community based, traditional clinic, etc.
Is there a particular grouping of people that you might see yourself gravitate towards in your professional work knowing your results?
Assignment: MHC 678 Self Analysis Paper
My Feelings before taking the assessments
Before taking the assessments I honestly did not know what to expect. I had never taken these assessments before and was feeling both nervous and excited to get the results. I was not aware of how long the assessments would be or the kinds of questions that would be asked. I had an idea that the questions would inquire things about our traits and ways of living or making decisions, but I did not know what to expect. As humans, everyone has an idea of who they are and what they like, however, I feel that assessments like the MBTI and SII give us clarity and help us understand ourselves better.
My feelings taking the assessments
While taking the assessments I was surprised as to how many questions each of them had. When I saw the amount of questions, I became a bit overwhelmed and anxious and thought about how clients may feel the same way when being given these assessments. However, as I started answering the questions, I realized that they were for the most part, easy to answer and I became more comfortable as I continued to take the assessments. There were questions which were easier to answer than others. At times, there were questions in which I would agree with all answers or none and I would have to stop and take a moment to think about which of the answers was most likely like me; how I most likely dealt with certain situations in my everyday life in order to answer the question. However, for the majority of the time while taking the assessment I was able to answer the questions in a fast-paced manor, which made me realize that I know myself better than I thought I did.
My feelings after taking the assessments
After taking the assessments I felt like I had learned some things that I did not already know about myself. It was interesting to
- What feelings did you experience before, during, and after the test?
- Did any results of these tests surprise you?
- How would you say that the act of taking these tests and becoming aware of the results prepare you in your career?
- What is your opinion of the ‘dual process’ in counseling?
- Would you use these tests with your clients? If so, how would you do so?
