When graduate nursing students engage in scholarly activities and research, they must take steps to ensure that human subjects are protected. This process includes an initial introduction to the role of an organization’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB reviews proposed scholarly activities to ensure that human subjects do not suffer any undue physical, financial, or psychological harm.

As a graduate nursing student at WCU, you are required to submit documentation of completion of an online certificate program entitled “Protecting Human Research Participants,” which is available from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
