Research Problems and Designs

The research design flows from the research question and outlines the plan for the study that will answer the research question. The design identifies the major components of the study. It is important to remember that there is no one best design for a research study. Define qualitative and quantitative research designs.

After you review the designs, describe which research design you would expect to find when searching for evidence relevant to your own research question. Why? Explain your answer. NR 439 Week 3 Discussion: Research Problems and Designs

NR 439 Week 4 Discussion: Ethical and Legal Issues

Ethical and Legal Issues

Read one of the following:

Shepard, A. (2010). Moral distress: A consequence of caring. Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing,
Stringer, S. (2013). Moral choices in end of life care for children. Cancer Nursing Practice, 12(7), 27–32.
Cite the article you chose. Describe the ways the subjects were vulnerable. Is there any conflict of interest? Which protections should be put in place to protect these subjects from harm? What are the incidence and prevalence of moral distress in nursing today?

NR 439 Week 5 Discussion: Data Collection and Measurement

Data Collection and Measurement

The tools that we use to collect data need to be reliable and valid. Define these terms with respect to research and explain why they are important.

Consider data collection and measure methods as you read the following online or after you download it.
American Nurses Association. (2014). Fast facts: The nursing workforce 2014: Growth, salaries, education, demographics & trends. Retrieved from Review these facts and describe what the results say about this sample of the nursing workforce. What do you believe was the intent of the researcher who designed the survey?

NR 439 Week 6 Assignment: Research Article Review Guidelines Purpose

Research Article Review Guidelines Purpose

The purpose of this Assignment is for the student to learn to assimilate, analyze, critique, and summarize an original research article.

Student is to select a report of a single, original study that has been published within the last five years from the CCN Library. Course Outcomes Through this Assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to meet the following course outcomes:

CO1: Examine the sources of evidence that contribute to professional nursing practice.
(PO #7) CO2: Apply research principles to the interpretation of the content of published research studies. (
POs #4 and 8)
CO4: valuate published nursing research for credibility and lab significance related to evidence-based practice.
(POs #4 and 8)
CO5: Recognize the role of research findings in evidence-based practice.
(POs #7 and 8)
Points

The Assignment is worth a total of 200 points.

Due Date
You are to submit your paper to the Week 6 Research Article Review Dropbox by Sunday 11:59 p.m. MT at the end of Week 6.

Requirements

Through this Assignment, the student will:
Conduct a systematic search of relevant databases to find research-based evidence related to a nursing problem (CO 1); Student is to use the CCN library for search.
Critique a peer-reviewed study, indicating the research question, sample, design of study, data collection method, findings, and limitations of each (CO 2, CO 4,)

Summarize the research article and evaluate the significance to nursing. (CO 3).

Please remember this Assignment can be sent to TurnitinWeek One draft box for review. If you wait until late Sunday night to submit, you may not receive your feedback in time if you need to make changes. Final submission must be in the Week 6 AssignmentDropbox and student will not receive Turnitin results. Please read the announcement on the Turnitin information.
Article must be from CCN Library and student is required to document working permalink to article.

Preparing the Paper

Conduct a PICO(T) search on the nursing problem that you identified in Week 2, Discussion questions. Select one most recent peer-reviewed study that describes original research in a single study.
Analyze the article and provide the following information in brief format: research question the study; type of sample and number of participants; research design of the study, findings of the study; and limitations of the study. Summarize the importance to nursing.
The estimated length of this paper is four (4) pages, excluding the title page and References page. Summarize the results of the study as outlined below:

Write a brief introduction to your paper, however do not label it as an “Introduction” in accordance with the rules of APA scholarly writing.

State the research question for this study in a paragraph.

Describe the research design of this study.
Explain how the sample was selected and include the number of participants. Make a judgment as to whether the sample size was adequate, and defend your answer why or why not.
Describe the data collection method(s) including who collected data, what tools were used, and other pertinent information.
Identify the limitations of the study, and describe how the limitations could be overcome in subsequent studies.
Describe the findings reported in the study. What is the answer to the research question based on these findings? If the study fails to answer the research question, what do you believe is the reason?
Summarize the article. Based on these findings, is the evidence that you found on your topic strong enough to suggest a change in practice, or an idea for practice? Please provide the rationale for your answer.
List your references, formatted in APA style, On the References page. Guidelines and a sample paper on APA may be found under Course Home in the Course Resources link. Follow the guidelines for writing professional papers using APA formatting as described in the 6th edition of the manual.

NR 439 Week 6 Discussion: Data Results and Analysis

Data Results and Analysis

After the data are collected, it is time to analyze the results! Discuss one of the four basic rules for understanding results in a research study. Compare clinical significance and statistical significance. Which one is more meaningful when considering applying evidence to your practice? Compare descriptive statistics and inferential statistics in research. Please give an example of each type that could be collected in a study that would be done on your nursing clinical issue you identified in previous Weeks.

NR 439 Week 7 Discussion: Applying and Sharing Evidence

Applying and Sharing Evidence After the data has been analyzed, conclusions are made regarding what the findings mean. Then, this information must be shared in order to achieve EBP.

Choose one of the articles from the RRL Assignment and discuss the findings. Would you apply the evidence found to your practice?

Explain your answer. Translating research into practice is the final and most important step in the research process. Review information you found in the Database Assignment, and explain ways in which you would share the research-based evidence with your peers.

NR 439 Week 8 Discussion: Applying and Sharing Evidence

Where Do You Go From Here?

How has your thinking changed about nursing research and evidence based practice as the result of this course? What challenges do you anticipate you will face in implementing EBP, and how will you overcome these challenges?
