NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers
Nurses engage in research to stay up-to-date on the changing scope of healthcare as well as new methods and best practices in providing quality care to patients. Students in this course learn the basic elements of the research process. They also learn how scholar-practitioners use these elements to discover new knowledge and models for applying evidence to inform clinical decisions and improve nursing practice and patient outcomes. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
They consider the ethical conduct of research and scholarly work as well as the nurse’s role in the collection, documentation, analysis, interpretation, dissemination, and utilization of research data. Students apply course concepts as they research a current problem in nursing practice, propose solutions for change, and synthesize literature that supports their proposed changes.
According to Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper & Bucher (2014), “Evidence-based practice is a problem-solving approach to clinical decision making. It involves the use of the best available evidence in combination with clinical expertise and patient preferences and values to achieve desired patient outcomes.” Using evidence based practice in nursing is extremely important, because evidence-based practice is the result of others trying a practice one way but needing to change some of the guidelines to make the practice safer and over all better for patients. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
Nurses always want what works best for their patients rather than having to struggle to find what works. The nurse plays a key role in implementing evidence-based practice because it is the nurse who is the advocate and care giver to their patients. Because of evidence-based practice different aspects of nursing care are always changing. It is crucial for nursing practice to evolve because through research other health care professionals have found things that work best and is resulting in less patient deaths and furthering complications in a patient’s illness. Literature research in nursing management In the therapeutic nursing situation, one type of nursing care or management problem would be the chemical dependence of nurses, which largely affects their work attitude and their disposition. Chemical dependent people usually have a tendency to be rude, ill-mannered, and impatient, as an effect of their addiction to a specific drug or chemical. For this, Bettinard-Angres and Bologeorges (2011) have addressed the situation by conducting research on chemically dependent nurses for the purpose of investigating their practices. The study was a profound one, as it delves into the ethical issues that surround both the researcher and the nurses, discussing barriers that may have prevented other nurses to report chemically dependent nurses. Evidence based practice (EBP) is the utilisation of best available, contemporary research in the management of individual patient care (Sackett et al. 2000). Evidence Based Practice Nursing Implications
As the health care environment is becoming more complex, and technology is developing rapidly, the expectations of nurses has increased more than ever before. Times are rapidly changing and to keep up with these changes, nurses are moving away from providing care based on the ways it’s always been done towards research- and evidence-based practice. The purpose of this paper is to define the importance of Evidence Based Practice (EBP). It will give examples of research in practice. And finally, will examine the barriers that prevent research utilization. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
Importance of Evidence Based Practice
Utilizing the EBP approach by nurses helps to bridge the gap between research, expert opinion and patient preferences to provide the highest quality of patient care possible. The simplest way to define Evidence Based Practice is the method of evaluating, and applying research findings to improve clinical practice, and patient outcomes. QUALITY OF EVIDENCE
The quality of evidence you find in your research varies based on the nature of its source. The pyramid to the right illustrates this hierarchy, starting at the bottom and improving in quality as it moves from bottom to top. Here is a guide to the levels:
Level I: Evidence from a systematic review or meta-analysis of all relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs), or evidence-based clinical practice guidelines based on systematic reviews of RCTs
Level II: Evidence obtained from at least one well-designed RCT
Level III: Evidence obtained from well-designed controlled trials without randomization
Level IV: Evidence from well-designed case-control and cohort studies
Level V: Evidence from systematic reviews of descriptive and qualitative studies
Level VI: Evidence from a single descriptive or qualitative study
Level VII: Evidence from the opinion of authorities and/or reports of expert committees

Welcome to the first week of your course!
For your application assignment, you must write a 4-5-page paper focusing on a significant clinical problem. Having trouble choosing a topic and getting started? Follow these suggestions: NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
Use a pre-formatted template. Go to the Writing Center and download the School of Nursing Sample Paper Template. Save it to your computer and then replace the current text (including the headings) with your own; the title page, running head, page numbers, and margin formatting are already done for you. You can use this template to start each application assignment.
Download the NURS 4000 Week 1 Application Rubric from the Course Info area of Blackboard. Keep it handy to ensure you are hitting the required components and using the correct headings. This rubric can act as an outline for the paper. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
Brainstorm a problem that you have witnessed at your health care institution. You will be more engaged and write more effectively if you are genuinely interested in the issue you’ve chosen.
Build your paragraphs. Each paragraph should focus on one idea. This idea is expressed in a topic sentence, usually at the beginning. Add supporting details and analysis to develop and clarify that idea. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.

Evidence-Based Nursing systematically searches a wide range of international medical journals applying strict criteria for the validity of research and relevance to best nursing practice. Content is critically appraised then the most relevant articles are summarised into a succinct expert commentary focusing on the papers key findings and implications for clinical practice. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
Evidence-Based Nursing is looking for authors to write commentaries for the journal. Authors need not have a PhD, but they should have experience in writing papers. We are also happy to commission less experienced authors if you have a more experienced colleague you can write with. Authors will ideally be nurses or midwives, but other healthcare professionals may register their interest. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
The aim of a commentary is to discuss, in no more than 800 words:
The context of the problem addressed by the paper
A brief description and critique of the methods, results & conclusions
implications for practice
How the results fit in with what is currently known in the field
You can read free examples of a commentary on a research paper here and a commentary on a systematic review here. NURS 4000 – Research and Scholarship Assignment Papers.
