COUN 6250/COUN 8250/COUN 6250A/COUN 6250F: Week 6: The Transition Stage Paper
COUN 6250/COUN 8250/COUN 6250A/COUN 6250F: Group Process and Dynamics | Week 6
Just as it seems the group has found a smooth road ahead by building trust and developing cohesion, twists, turns, and potholes suddenly appear and seem to knock the group off course. Without proper preparation, the group leader may be surprised and fail to recognize the predictable bumpy ride through the transition stage of group. Members are torn between wanting to be vulnerable and wanting to stay protected when tasked with making true change. The leader’s task is to help members identify the emerging fears and anxieties and encourage each member to take risks and break through old patterns to identify new ways of engaging in the group.
For this week, you will examine behaviors as they pose challenges for a leader in group settings. You also will examine strategies to address behavioral challenges.
