Purpose

The purpose of a detailed quality improvement plan (QIP) for XYZ Hospital is to ensure that the care and services provided meet patient expectations as well as quality and safety standards set by accrediting agencies such as The Joint Commission (TJC). A QIP will also promote enhanced work-life experiences for staff. Accreditation programs aim to improve clinical outcomes, the process of healthcare, and the quality of services provided (Alkhenizan & Shaw, 2011). Accreditation by TJC is “recognized and relied upon by many states as part of their quality oversight activities” (The Joint Commission [TJC], n.d.) with benefits such as improved risk management, enhanced staff education, recognition by insurers, as well as strengthened community confidence in the services that are offered by the accredited organization (TJC, 2018). The main goal of the QIP is to improve the influenza immunization rates of XYZ Hospital to meet the national benchmark. Ultimately, the purpose of a QIP is to improve care using a structured, actionable, and measurable approach (Joshi et al., 2014) based on input from both internal and external stakeholder groups.
