Cheating and academic honesty in school is of great concern to parents, school administrators, and students. Therefore, educational institutions—secondary and post-secondary—implement a variety of methods to encourage academic honesty. The term plagiarism is one form of cheating that online students need to understand and avoid.

Because this class is comprised of learners from a variety of educational backgrounds, some learners may have used methods other than APA to cite and reference other authors, and some new learners may not have had any prior experience with citation and reference requirements.
