Community Child Development Center Proposal
The chief objective of this research paper is to provide various activities that children should be incorporated into children’s program which enhances the physical, psychological and emotional development of the child. Every child center should work towards the good evolution of the child, and this is achieved when the child engages in a variety of activities depending on the stage the child is in. ROOM #1 – Infant Room
Children should be involved in coloring activities. A teacher should provide different images of animals, houses, cars, plants among other images and direct the children to color the picture. The purpose of this activity is to ensure that the child identifies a variety of colors and can relate the colors to the different objects that they are familiar with. For instance, coloring of plants green enhances their understanding that most plants are green. This activity assists the children in the understanding of objects before he/she understands reading. This event is supported by a maturational theory which infers that children should engage in readiness activities to enhance their ability to read. Coloring enhances child recognition to categorize, sort, compare and organize. When a child is involved in coloring, it raises the child’s self-esteem since the child develops a sense of achievement. Singing is the another activity that the children at this stage can engage in. As a tutor, one should come up with infant song’s such as ‘twinkle little star’ and make sure the children actively sing in class. Trehub (2003) exhibited the benefit of music to infants. According to the studies, involving children in singing enhances their language. Children can know the pronunciation of the various vocabularies. Therefore, singing activity is beneficial to the child language development. Comment by Grammarly: Deleted:Infants a Comment by Grammarly: Deleted:ble to
For social and emotional development, children may be involved in cooperative activities which include engaging children in back and forth play with adults. This event entails making children sit opposite each other and allowing the children to roll a softball towards each other and enabling them to catch. This activity nurtures the social skills of the child. The social child development theory specifically social learning theory substantially supports this action. According to the theory, children should be social influences has an impact on the children. This activity tends to make the child create a good rapport with other kids which is an instance of social impact. ROOM #2 – Toddler Room
Toddlers are very curious, and people should maximize this curiosity. This curiosity makes them be auditory learners who have a passion of touching, smelling or tasting so that they can understand the world. To utilize this interest, one should use a big marker pen to trace letters of the alphabet or numbers on a paper and let the child decorate the letter by use of textured items such as sand or beans. Touching the surface enhances the child to know how the letter or the number is formulated. This activity enhances the cognitive skills of the child. The cognitive child development theory is by this activity. The theory states that children play an active role in gaining knowledge of the new world and this is what the event emphasizes on the children. The another activity that you can involve children is the measuring up activity. In this game, a child is taught to measure items. The most common tool to use is a ruler, but one can incorporate other instruments such as months, seasons or times of the year. The another way you can improve measuring of a child is letting the child lie down and arranging fruits then let the child count the trees. This will improve the measuring skill of the child. From that, one can gradually use a ruler and explain to the child how to measure an object using the ruler. This activity enhances the learning process of the child. It improves the perceptual skill of the child which is an aspect of cognitive development. Incorporating of pictures and charts in the classroom will enhance the memory of the child. When a child sees a picture of an individual object, the image will remain in her memory, and this will improve her memorizing skills. Therefore, educational centers should work towards decorating the toddlers’ classroom to develop word association and improve their memory. Lotto games are one of the games that children in late childhood can engage in. In this type of game; a child utilizes his/her matching skills. This game helps a child to learn about one to one correspondence and pattern discrimination. Preparing this game involves making a picture of lotto grids then sticking pictures of food presented in a book. After that, one makes matching cards using similar pictures. The children then take part in selecting the cards. The child then covers the food item shown on the card, and the game ends when one player covers the entire grid. Physical development in childhood is an important aspect in the growth of infant motor skills. Various activities help in boosting the growth. At early childhood, a child may be introduced to music whereby the caregiver of the child frequently plays soft music to the child. By adding tunes to a child and singing for the child is a crucial process in the development of the child. Music helps in enhancing the moods of the baby and it helps in boosting the language skills of the child. As a parent, it is advised that you should have a specific playlist for your child to play for him when you are together. If you have a piano, it’s the best to play the tunes to the child. Ansdell (2016) in his book ‘How music helps in Music Therapy and everyday life’ illustrates that how music helps children to speak up faster. He states that babies who are more exposed to music have a tendency of utilizing more communication gestures which are a vital aspect in boosting the child’s speaking abilities. The more communicative gestures a child use, the more chances the child must acquire language skills. Songs played to the child introduces the child to new words and rhymes. Singing is a fundamental way in nurturing of language development and exploration of concepts and enhancing the child’s memory. Middle age is a time of latency. This describes the phase in development where the child is capable of turning outward, and the child starts establishing personality based on social interaction. It’s at this stage that children focus on becoming industrious and fruitful in friendship and fights with feeling of inferiority when compared with peers. Therefore, apt physical activities introduced to the children will greatly assist the development task and level of readiness. Comment by Grammarly: Deleted:s Comment by Grammarly: Deleted:ccess
Since the primary job of adult children is becoming industrious and establishing friendship the most appropriate activity to engage children in this phase is encouraging team sports. A good example of a team sport is soccer or baseball. It entails grouping the children in groups and allowing them to play against each other. From this, they will learn how to create a team spirit in that they will have to work together so as to win the sports activity. By working together as a team, a child appreciates that while the industry is achieved individually, it can be accomplished as part of the larger team. According to Konnicke (2009), the challenges of playing with and controlling the ball help in developing the motor skills of the child. Soccer enhances a child to develop endurance, strength, coordination skills, cognitive ability and social lessons. Children develop a relatively high aerobic and anaerobic threshold as they run across the soccer field. Recent studies show that it is through soccer that children can overcome two circumstances that are beyond his control. These conditions are early sensory development and evolution. They can develop their coordination skills. The coordination of the hands is more than that of the feet. Therefore, soccer helps in improving the coordination of the feet as it counteracts the feet’s related gross motor skills. Communication and understanding are the vital aspects in the late childhood stages of development. Therefore, to improve their cognitive skills, children at this stage should be involved in board games, putting together with the puzzle. Board games according to recent studies shows that they enhance social skills such as communicating verbally, sharing, waiting, taking turns and enjoying interactions with others. Board games also enhance the concentration of the child which is a crucial aspect of learning. Board games have a tendency of satisfying competitive urges of a child and the desire to master new skills and concepts. It’s at the late stage of child development that children have the desire to emulate what their elders are doing. They have the desire to copy the roles of those at home. For instance, girls tend to start practicing the skill of cooking. To improve their mastering skills, board games are vital as they enhance their cognitive skills.
