(1) Submit your Pre-Residency essay to the essay. The directions for this essay are:

Directions:

Write a paper (500-750 words) in which you discuss how you will apply concepts from the assigned pre-residency presentations to your dissertation research. Include the following in your paper:

  1. A statement of how the information in the pre-residency presentations supports and/or refutes the direction of your intended research.
  2. A statement of the how the information in the pre-residency presentations guides the revision of your initial research plan.

There are five items that must be addressed early in the process of creating and conducting a dissertation research study. These are explained in detail in the presentations required for review prior to Residency. In this assignment, you will apply the information from those presentations to your dissertation study. This information will be reviewed by your Residency instructor who will offer feedback and direction to help you move ahead in the dissertation process.

General Requirements: 

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

  • Review the five assigned presentations on the Required Pre-Residency Assignments and Activities page in the DC Network.
  • This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
  • Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.
  • Refer to Chapters 2-4 of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.) for specific guidelines related to doctoral level writing. These chapters contain essential information on manuscript structure and content, clear and concise writing, and academic grammar and usage.
  • This assignment requires that at least two additional scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.
  • You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

    RSD-851 Pre-Residency Assignments

     

    For Residency, please complete the following pre-assignment to be used throughout the week. You will be using the draft of your 10 Strategic Points starting Monday to work on developing or revising your 10 Strategic Points. Pre-Residency Essay Discussion Paper

     

    Pre-Residency Work: Please complete the following pre-assignments before you come to Residency.

    (1) 10 Strategic Points: You will be using this throughout Residency. The attached document (10_Strategic_Points) includes the instructions and a table in which to complete your 10 Strategic Points. The 10 Strategic Points are essential to ensuring your research plan is clear, aligned, and doable. Feedback will be given on your 10 Strategic Points prior to and in the class throughout the week.

    a. Post your completed 10 Strategic Points document in the Pre-Residency 10 Strategic Points assignment dropbox by the day 1 (Thursday) before coming to Residency.

     

    (2) Download the following materials to your laptop to use in class each day: First, download your Pre-Assignment including the 10 Strategic Points document and the 5 empirical articles or dissertations. Second, download Required Residency Course Materials to use in class each day. The course materials for this class ARE NOT in LoudCloud. They are here in the DC Network, so you can continue to access them after class. Please download:

    1. RSD-851 Calendar 2020

    2. All the materials in Folder 2 (Required: Residency Course Materials) from RSD-851 to your laptop before coming to Residency. There is an additional folder (labeled 03.Resources). You are encouraged, but not required to download and bring this with you. This folder contains resources for you to use in your dissertation development. Please do not assume you can access DC Network daily since there can be computer network issues at the hotel just as you can experience at home or work.

     

    (3) Respond to the Pre-Residency DQ by Saturday midnight. The Pre-Residency DQ is found in the LoudCloud classroom

     

    (4) Submit your Pre-Residency essay to the essay dropbox in LoudCloud by Sunday (day 4). The directions for this essay are:

    The faculty will provide their e-mails and telephone numbers in case you need to reach them prior to Residency. Their announcements will provide any updated information. Also, please note that the course materials are not in LoudCloud. They are only available here on the DC Network. By providing the materials on the DC Network, you will be able to access them after Residency and throughout your dissertation journey.

     

    Residency Provides an Opportunity to Continue to Work on Your Dissertation Plan

     

    When you attend Residency, you will have the opportunity to update your 10 Strategic Points, Prospectus, or Proposal document as you work through the week. Residency is an opportunity to work with several dissertation chairs, College of Doctoral Studies resources, and your peers to gain a variety of perspectives to help you define and refine the focus for and approach to your dissertation research.     How to Download the Course Material for Residency:

    1) Open the DC Network and sign in. It uses the same login information that you use for LoudCloud.

    2) Click on the Residency link located at the top of the page (right below the picture).

    3) Open the RSD851 folder located on the right side of the page.

    4) There are three folders listed on the page – 01. 02. and 03. (Do not open any of the folders). Located above the folders (in the dark gray line of options), there is a link that shows Download This Folder <click on it>.

    5) A File Download pop up appears and asks: Do you want to open or save this file (Zip File)? Click Save.

    6) Another pop-up window will appear. Select the location you want your files to reside (for easy access at Residency you might want them on your desktop).

    7) When the download is complete, click Open Folder, to confirm your files have downloaded.

    8) Click on the zipped folder and then click on the downloaded folder. The three folders should appear.

    9) Open the folders to ensure the documents are all there.

    10) Please Note: In some cases, you may have to extract all files to work with the folders and files.
