Nursing and Cross-Cultural Relations Reflection

Nursing and Cross-Cultural Relations Reflection

Nursing and Cross-Cultural Relations Reflection

Evolve activities are included in the modules in this course to assist you in transitioning to a reflective professional nurse. Thoughtful reflection requires that you take a minute and examine your own responses and actions to an activity or situation. Through this analysis, you gain insights into self and your learning. This reflection improves the quality of care that you can apply in other clinical situations. There are generally no correct or incorrect answers to this activity. Your grade will be based on evidence that you completed the activity. You previously watched the video Cultural Competence about a patient with a culture and language that differed from the nurse’s culture. You should watch six minutes of the video about Mr. Pierre again and now respond to the questions.

Questions:

The nurse is using the son as the interpreter for Mr. Pierre.

· What other intervention should the nurse have started to initiate to establish good communication with him?

·  Can you identify bias and/or stereotyping in this clip?

·  What evidence of ethnocentrism do you see in this video clip?

·  To what degree do you see assimilation or acculturation?

Post your response as a discussion post. This is a reflection of your learning during this module as applied to the video. Reading and replying to peers is recommended and contributes to your learning, but it is not required or part of the evaluation.

Consult the  Discussion Posting Guide   for information about writing your Evolve discussion posts. It is recommended that you write your post in a document first. Check your work and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. When you are ready to make your initial post, click on “Reply.” Then copy/paste the text into the message field and click “Post Reply.” This is a “post first” discussion forum. You must submit your initial post before you can view other students’ posts

Be sure to review the Learning Connection Rubric below for evaluation details. All Evolve activities are a combined 5% of your final grade.
