Example VARK Analysis Paper

Identifying individuals learning styles of all learners is necessary to good performance in the health promotion sector. In most cases, educators assume this great responsibility to determine how to handle best and teach learners, which has a long time stagnated their (learners) educational performance and health promotion outcomes (Liew et al., 2015). The purpose of this paper is to conduct a VARK analysis and discuss the overall value of learning styles.

Personal Learning Styles According to VARK Questionnaire

VARK questionnaire has been one of the best ways of analyzing students’ preferred learning strategies to improve their educational performance and service delivery in various sectors they get an opportunity to work in after school. According to the VARK questionnaire, my learning styles are Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic. Aural learning style entails listening to the teacher and engaging in discussions with people who have some knowledge or interest in learning the same thing. Aural learning strategy requires attentiveness to the sound of the one offering the lesson. Under the read/write learning strategy, notes, texts, handouts are an excellent and reliable source of knowledge (Bhagat, Vyas, & Singh 2015). Grand Canyon NRS 429V Assignment Papers

I prefer having the notes because I can refer to them in the future if I am unable to reach out to the teacher. When notes are preserved well, they can also be helpful for consultation in discussion sessions. Finally, after answering the VARK questionnaire questions, the kinesthetic style appeared to be one of my best learning styles. Engaging in practical exercises creates a lasting impression in my brain. Learning through examples makes it easy to understand something because you can learn the whole procedure of doing something that is supposed to be done step by step (Bhagat, Vyas, & Singh 2015). It is tough to forget what you have ever seen, unlike what you just read being explained in books without practically doing it.

Preferred Learning Strategies

My preferred learning strategies are Kinesthetic, aural, and read/write strategies. I mostly prefer the Kinesthetic approach because I find it easy to learn through practical examples and case studies. Practical examples boost my confidence in doing things and handling similar tasks if assigned by the teacher. My second best learning strategy is aural, which involves listening and engaging in focused group discussions. Through this, I learn what is required of me by the teacher and improve my communication skills, which are essential in handling day-to-day life issues. Finally, reading and writing notes as the teacher is teaching ensures I concentrate throughout the whole class, which is very necessary for good performance in my academics.

Effect on Educational Performance and importance of identifying Learning Styles for Learners as an Educator

Learning styles are essential to the educational performance of the learners.  For example, some learners prefer doing things practically because they can remember what they learn. Additionally, other learners don’t love writing or reading notes. They would like practical examples or listen or watch a video with visual and graphical presentations of what they should learn (Liew et al., 2015). Through this, learning is made interesting, enhancing their educational performance because they do what they love most.

The first step of becoming a successful educator is identifying the individual learning styles of your learners. Once the learning styles are identified, the tutoring work becomes more comfortable, and the educator can subgroup the learners where each group will consist of learners with similar preferred styles. For example, when he wants to handle a particular topic, he will prepare notes and handouts, audio and video presentations, and equipment that can be used to study the matter in question practically. The educator will assign the group that loves read/write style a task where they are supposed to explore the topic, discuss the key issues and write a summary of what they learn.

The second group will be given a video to listen to and finally answer questions or summarize what they learn. The last group can be given the required equipment to practically try doing what the educator needs from them and finally compile and submit their findings. Through doing this, the learners will be able to get the concepts better and easily because they will all be feeling part and parcel of the class sine they participated in answering questions or writing summary and findings of the topic in question hence giving the educator a smooth teaching session (Liew et al., 2015).

Learning Styles and Health Promotion

Health promotion outcomes will only be successful if the different individuals’ learning styles are applied accordingly. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the different learning styles that each individual possesses. This will enable the educator to know the best approach to use when teaching various topics. Once the right method is used, the learners will be able to get the concepts rightly and correctly deliver their health services in the future.

Forcing a wrong learning style on an individual may lead to a change of behavior and attitude towards the teacher and the subject, which will finally negatively affect the general performance. Therefore, identifying and utilizing various individual learning styles is essential for learners’ performance and health promotion outcomes (Mozaffari et al., 2020). Health promotion is a vast field hence making it easy for the application of different learning styles. For example, health promotion topics require reading and writing notes, watching and listening to the video and audio clips that show and explaining how various disorders should be treated, and performing practical experiences and observations.

Conclusion

Learning styles of all learners is necessary for good performance in the health promotion sector. Therefore, educators need to identify the learning styles that can be made uncomplicated by issuing the learners with the VARK analysis questionnaire. This enables the educators to determine how their learners would love to be taught and handled. Grand Canyon NRS 429V Assignment Papers

Example Family Health Assessment Part 11

Studies shows that social determinants of health (SDOH) have a greater influence on the health of an individual and thus a family, than the health care delivery system (McCalmont, Norris, Garzon, Cisneros, Greene, Regino, Sandoval, Gomez, Page-Reeves, & Kaufman. (2016). Centers of Disease control and Prevention (CDC) defines SDOH as “Conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes,” (CDC, n.d.b). The family SDOH, health screening, and family health promotion model have executed, and this assessment contains the plan of action concluded from those. Grand Canyon NRS 429V Assignment Papers

SDOH and Its Impacts on Family

Based on the assessment of Mr. Koshy and family, SDOH falls under the categories of social environment, physical environment, and health services. The SDOH affecting this family are culture, family traditions and beliefs, marital status, lifestyle, impact of migration, adaptation of a new culture and health insurance. This is an Indian family who has migrated to the U.S almost eleven years back, continuously trying to adapt to American culture. The parents are in their late forties and are greatly influenced by the Indian culture and family traditions, which makes Mr. Koshy, the decision-making figure in the family. Mrs. Koshy is busy with her household chores and her job which makes regular exercise and getting enough rest/sleep difficult. In Indian culture, the husband is the decision maker and the one who deals with family finances while the wife takes care of cooking, cleaning, and other household works. The customs and impact of migration have an influence on adapting to healthy lifestyle behavioral changes. Studies show that there is a risk of developing physical and mental illnesses either due to an unhealthy diet and/or lack of physical exercise or having irregular health checks (Samarth, Dahlen, & Razee, 2019). As a married woman, Mrs. Koshy is trying to cooperate with culture and family traditions.

Health Insurance is another SDOH which impacts the family’s health promotion. Mrs. Koshy is the primary insurance holder, and she has the basic plan which her employer provides, and both couples are trying to save money by reducing the cost of living as much they can. Though the couple is health conscious, they are trying to save money without going to regular dental or vision checkups. Saving money to secure the children’s future may also be negatively impacting the well-being of the family. The 17-year-old daughter is under stress with peer pressure and parents are unable to provide needed support and open conversation. While parents are trying to follow the traditions and values in which they were brought up, there is a lack of understanding in their daughters physical, mental and psychological development and well-being.

Age Appropriate Health Screening

Mr. Koshy [48 years old], and Mrs. Koshy [45 years old] need to have regular yearly physical checkup done, including, but not limited to blood pressure, cholesterol, Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood sugar and based on the finding, they must follow their physician’s instructions. They need to go to a dental exam once or twice a year and an eye exam every 2 to 4 years. Mrs. Koshy must do a mammogram every 1 to 2 years, pap smear every 5 years and based on the findings, she must follow up for further evaluation instructions. They are relatively healthy individuals but need routine health assessment to prevent common age-related diseases like diabetes and heart disease, as well as a screening for cancer.

17 year old Rosie and 11 year old Anna need yearly physical screenings which include, basic measurements [height, weight, head circumference, BMI, weight for length, blood pressure], sensory screening [vision with appropriate follow up, hearing], developmental/ behavioral screening which include drug use assessment, physical exam with assessment of  immunization, anemia, tuberculosis, and sexually transmitted infections. Anticipatory guidance should be provided with appropriate interventions. (Recommendations for Preventative Pediatric Health Care, 2017). Rosie needs to have a psychological assessment done to rule out any underlying stress related to ethnicity, peer pressure and lack of parental support (O’Connell, Davis, & Bauer, 2015). Both children are relatively healthy but need to focus more on preventive measures as means to improve their physical and psychological well-being.

Health Promotion Model

Calgary Family Assessment and Intervention Models (CFIM), can be applied on this family to make health promotion strategies. In this model, change in one aspect of the system creates change in the other aspects of the system and interventions are deliberately designated to connect with and transform a particular aspect of the cognitive, affective, or behavioral domain (Green, 2018). In this family, as a family lead person, if the attitude and behavior of Mr. Koshy changes, it affects or causes changes in the lives of others. Mr. Koshy can be instrumental in the life of his wife by changing his attitude towards sharing the family responsibilities and thus it will bring a change in family atmosphere as well as life- style. Again, as a decision maker for the entire family, he can be more open to his children’s physical, mental and psychological needs, easing their involvement in both cultures.

Family Centered Health Promotion

As a nurse caring for this family, I need to connect with their needs, respecting their confidentiality, keeping their dignity, and partaking in decision-making. Individual and family interview sessions to be conducted to discuss the health summary of their family health evaluation and care plan. My focus will be to plan more on discovering and building on the patient/family’s ideas and resources for how to manage and/or soften their concerns and health issues. I will be focusing more towards co-created conversations and trying to develop a nurse-family relationship with therapeutic conversations (Leahey, & Wright, 2016). Open-ended questions, reflections, affirmations, validations, normalizing, and respectful sharing of information are helpful ways to involve a family to get the complete picture of their situation and set priorities that address their unique needs. Grand Canyon NRS 429V Assignment Papers

My plan is to educate the Koshy family, the need of caring for each other and sharing the family workload which will ease the workload of Mrs. Koshy and encourage her to find time for regular exercise and sleep/rest. Mr. and Mrs. Koshy will be encouraged to find time with their children and cultivate a supportive relationship with their daughters. Referral services with a psychological support team could be provided to understand how to handle the cultural impacts of their life and how to seek help when it is needed. I’ll give insights into options of health insurance plans and encourage the family to go for regular health screening. I’ll also encourage them to participate in the local community events which will break the barriers of cultural differences. My plan is to have regular follow-ups with them to see improvements or setbacks, and to intervene as needed.
